Your eyes and the areas around your forehead are most important aspects of your appearance, and one of the first areas to show signs of aging. For some, this can occur as early as your twenties to early thirties. If your eyes project a lack of energy due to overhanging skin and puffiness, you may appear tired or older. Conversely, if the eyes are more open and relatively free of creases and folds, you will probably seem more rested and youthful. If your forehead shows signs of worry and stress, this too can make you appear fatigued. For these reasons, many people today, of all ages are interested in both non-surgical and surgical treatments for all types of facial changes. In our society, looking your best and preserving your youthful features are important parts of who we are.

Blepharoplasty or Eyelifts
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Upper eyelid Blepharoplasty involves the improvement of two characteristics of the aging upper eyelid area. The first is correction of excess skin of the upper eyelid, a condition referred to as "hooding of the upper lid." The second condition that can be corrected is the puffiness that is seen in the inner corner and middle of the eyelid as a result of herniation (pushing forward) of fat located in these areas above the eye. Upper eyelid Blepharoplasty is commonly performed at the same time as lower eyelid Blepharoplasty. Upper eyelid Blepharoplasty does not correct crow’s feet, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Lower eyelid Blepharoplasty is a procedure performed to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids, which is the anatomic area that extends from the lower lid eyelashes to the bony rim of the eye socket.

If there is a herniation of fat present, there are two different surgical approaches Dr. Hofeldt can use to remove the fat. The more common technique utilizes an inconspicuous incision that runs just beneath the lash line. An alternative is to enter the fat pockets through an incision made in the inner lining of the lower eyelid. If excess skin needs to be removed, this can only be accomplished through an external approach. The procedure is long lasting and usually never has to be repeated.  You might benefit from eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty if:

    • Your upper eyelids appear hooded
    • It's become increasingly difficult to put on eye makeup
    • Even after you've had a good night's sleep people ask you if you're tired
    • You have puffiness under your eyes that never goes away
    • You are developing bulges in the corners of your upper eyelids
    • You have trouble keeping your eyes open
    • Your upper eyelids always feel heavy
    • Your eyes appear to have become smaller
    • Your eye makeup smudges very easily
    • You've lost the fold of your upper eyelid
    • Your peripheral vision is decreased
    • You have excess skin and crepe like wrinkles beneath your eyes
    • Ever since you can remember you've had baggy eyes
    • You have skin breakdown or irritation at the area of excess skin

Brow Lifts
A Brow Lift is also called a Forehead Lift. This usually is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that can be used to raise your eyebrows to a higher position in order to give a more aesthetic appearance. A Brow Lift can also be used to reduce or eliminate the presence of droopy flaps of skin that hang over the outside corner of your eyes as well as to soften the “scowl” or “frown lines” that can form across your forehead or between your eyebrows. However, a Brow Lift will not help the presence of baggy eyelids or crow’s feet, which are better treated with Blepharoplasty or wrinkle smoothing treatments depending on the cause of the problem.
Typically a Brow Lift can be performed by a conventional surgical technique involving an “ear to ear” incision across the top of your head or endoscopically through 4-6 very small incisions behind your hairline. Conventional Brow Lift surgery often leaves the top of your head numb for some time and can raise the position of your hairline, which might be a problem if your hairline was already high. Both of these techniques leave virtually unnoticeable scars behind your hairline. While there are other techniques for Brow Lifts, Dr. Hofeldt believes these two options offer the most predictable and desirable results for most patients.

Midfacial Lifts
A Midfacial Lift is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure Dr. Hofeldt uses to help achieve a more desirable appearance for those people who have excessive sagging of their cheeks, deep creases between their nose and cheeks or who may have concavities in the area between the eyelid and cheek. In a Midfacial Lift, the entire facial skin, muscles and fat are elevated and tightened in order to form a continuous smooth contour. The incisions are hidden inside the lower eyelid or within the hairline at your temple so that there are no visible scars. Patients having a Midfacial Lift can usually expect to have smooth contour between the eyelid and the cheek and nose and the cheek as well as a smoothing of the crease between the lip and the cheek.

Laser Facial Resurfacing
Laser Facial Resurfacing is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that uses a laser to precisely and gently remove very thin layers of skin without damaging the underlying layers or adjacent structures. Laser Facial Resurfacing is preferred over Chemical Peels as it allows us to custom tailor the procedure for each individual area on the face with great precision. For example, the thinner and more delicate skin on the eyelids may require a different treatment than the thicker skin of the forehead-something readily achieved with Laser Facial Resurfacing.

Patients with moderate facial problems such as light acne scars, fine wrinkles, discoloration of the skin and dark circles under their eyes may be good candidates for Laser facial resurfacing.
